Linguistic Processing in Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): An Integrative Review

Aguiar de Oliveira Silva, Carolina

Abstract:

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder primarily characterized by difficulties with attention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity. Individuals with ADHD often exhibit deficits in executive functions, such as working memory, inhibition, and cognitive flexibility, that could be related to language deficits. Objective This integrative review provides a brief overview of the current state of the literature on syntactic language processing in ADHD. Method An integrative review was conducted in two academic databases (i.e Scopus and Web of Science). Results Three review articles and seven empirical studies were identified considering the relevance to the topic. Conclusion The literature supports an association between ADHD diagnosis and challenges with grammatical processing. However, the evidence thus far has primarily focused on the overall deficits observed in ADHD rather than on specific syntactic impairments.

Denialism in Brazil: From Genealogy to the Covid-19 Pandemic as a Public Policy Outline

Almada, Pablo Emanuel Romero

Abstract:

This article presents some general lines of understanding of denialism to then observe its presence in Brazil during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Denialism is a concept that is characterized by a lack of scientific knowledge and various knowledge discourses. Initially, we argue that denialism has changed in the last decade, raising the attention of intellectuals, scholars, and the scientific community, especially regarding the narrow limits of lying positions. Following this argument, we focus on the Brazilian case, aiming to understand how the absence of public policies to control the spread of Covid-19 brought denialism to the center of the debate, replacing the possibility of public policies to control the disease. We conclude the study by problematizing the relationship between denialism and social media, to identify how the disinformation campaign, which brought denialism as a public policy outline, was successful in Brazil.

The Concept of Conscious Body in the Education Studies: A Bibliographic Review

Almeida Carneiro, Nathalya Bianca

Abstract:

Many academic studies have been prepared on the subject of corporeality. It is now theoretically known and understood that a student has not only a mind but also a body. A body that has feelings expresses itself and has no place in the traditional school. I see an increase in studies in this area, but I found one concept during my journey in this topic that I could not forget and there is no other concept that made more sense to the reality that I see in schools every day nowadays. The concept of the Conscious Body, seen from the perspective of Paulo Freire. Through a bibliographic review, I have investigated in which way the concept of the Conscious Body, according to Paulo Freire, has been approached in studies set on the basic school environment. What had just been a personal question turned into a restlessness, and became the very issue of this paper. I have concluded that those fighting for this matter and this perspective of corporeality are mainly in the Physical Education field. It is time for pedagogues and educators to understand that you cannot focus on the cognitive side of learning only, directing your actions merely to the mind of the students.

Brazilian Forest Concessions: The Contrast Between Goals and Actual Impacts

Almeida Corcino, Brenda

Abstract:

In 2006, the forest concessions are established in Brazil as a means to control deforestation and provide sustainable timber production. This article presents a study on this mechanism and its impacts, using bibliographic study and data analysis on the history of Brazilian forest concessions and the forest-based industry. The main results obtained were that concessionaires comply with indicators and contract clauses, productivity has been lower than estimated, and there are improvement measures to be implemented in relation to environmental and social indicators. It led to the conclusions that forest concessions in Brazil have great potential for growth and show that it is possible to merge production with sustainability while reducing environmental degradation and generating local jobs and social investments, but there is a need for new discussions to achieve greater results. The study highlights the importance of forest management for the production of timber and not timber products and provides insights about the performance and results of forest concessions in Brazil.

The Intrinsic Relation between Bacteria and Cancer - A Review

Almeida Tomé, Laura

Abstract:

Over the last decades studies have shown the importance of the microbiome in the development of some diseases, including cancer, anxiety, obesity, and some neurological diseases. Understanding the genesis of a pathology such as cancer is the reason for several studies over the last decades and one of the most emerging explanations is the fact that our microbiome is an important biomarker for carcinogenesis development. The mechanisms which a disruption of homeostasis by bacterial infection lead to cancer are promising for a better understanding of the origin and future therapies. Yet a deeper comprehension of the intercommunication host-microbiome is still necessary for a better conception about the pathogenicity of the species that could lead to cancer progression. In contrast, some types of bacteria have been used in innovative treatments that facilitate drug delivery, helping to prevent cases and treat people with less toxicity and side effects.

A Review About the Transition of CEA’s From the Field to Indoors

Alves Feitosa de Souza, Davi

Abstract:

In this article it is presented an overview of the literature regarding the topic of Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and its shifting from open-field to indoors applications. The efforts to make agriculture, in all of its steps, more efficient combined with the technological advancement of the last decades led us to a situation where not only the monitoring and control of several aspects of cultivation is possible, but it can be achieved on a small scale with low-cost solutions. This increased the technological access of microcontrollers, such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi, which allowed the development for academy research prototyping and emerging of novel concepts, such as smart greenhouses. With that, this literature review shows some of the recent works done by researchers, representing the possibilities of main applications in precision agriculture. The main goal is highlighting important aspects of using the mentioned technological platforms as a way of showing their relevance, and then provide further explanation on how these studies empowered the transition from field to indoors. Finally, it is concluded that technological advance has made possible the reliable control of different environments and made more accessible the research of CEA. But, on the other hand, there is still a lack of incentives for students and universities studying and solving problems to provide even more innovations regarding the field.

The Influences of European Melodrama in Brazilian Concert Music with Recited Text

Alves Longobardi, Alexandre

Abstract:

The melodrama is an art form defined by the joining of music with a recited text. In European music history, the genre first became prominent in the 18th century and, since then, many generations of composers and librettist contributed with melodramatic works. Over time, the methods employed for combining music with declamation became more complex and diverse, and, with that, the ways the composers write for narrator or reciter in the music score became more detailed, with more instructions on rhythm and intonation, for example. In Brazilian music history, however, the practice of combining music with a recited text in a composition is more recent, with all the examples with such practice found during the research for this publication dating from the second half of the 20th century and beyond. Nevertheless, as detailed in this article, those more recent Brazilian compositions have similarities with the European melodramas from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century, at least when it comes to the methods employed by the composers for writing music combined with a recited text, which provides a first glimpse of the influences of the melodrama in Brazilian concert music and to what extent the melodramatic characteristics are indeed present in it.

Retrospective Study of Equine Infectious Anemia in the Southern Amazonia Region, Brazil, 2013-2018

Amaro Luiz, Sara Caroline

Abstract:

The Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) is a viral disease caused by a retrovirus that leads to a persistent infection, most of the times without relevant clinical symptoms, thus being an illness of great relevance for the Brazilian equideoculture due the obligatory sacrifice of positive animals, according to local legislation. The aim of this study was to analyze the frequency of animals positive for EIA from cities of Mato Grosso and Pará states of the Southern Amazonia region in Brazil during the years 2013 to 2018. Data from 31.097 exams performed in an accredited laboratory by the Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento (MAPA) were analyzed. The cumulative frequency found on the evaluated period was 0,73%, with annual frequencies of 0,81%, 0,67%, 1,15%, 0,63%, 0,64% and 0,65% respectively. The cumulative frequency of positive animals of Mato Grosso state found was 0,59%, a result that possibly indicates more efficiency of the animal health surveillance service in the region. On the other hand, in Pará state, the cumulative frequency found was 2,49%, demonstrating more occurrence of this disease in the equine herd of this territory. In that way, according to the results obtained, it was possible to verify the circulation of the EIA virus in Mato Grosso and Pará states, mostly in this last one, and to determine that public politics of animal health surveillance should be increased for a greater control of the epidemiological indices of this disease.

First Day as Teacher

Andrade de Oliveira, Sara Gabrielle

Abstract:

The first class is the first moment to execute the” praxis” as a teacher. This experience report has the objective to describe my experience on the mandatory curricular internship II of Science Biology graduation at UFG (Goiás Federal University) in the year 2022, with the purpose of reflecting on my actions and how they contributed to my teacher training. Both internship I and II are connected but I will give more emphasis on the second one, on the 3 months of course duration, on what occurred the improvement of the project that contains the teaching plan, class plan and the execution of the sexual education classes on a field school, more especially, a second year of high school class in a military school and using Paulo Freire methodology as theoretical reference and texts that discuss about dialect. During the planning and execution stage, I found a lot of difficulties that involves not just my limitations as a teacher, but impasses about the pandemic period we live in, besides the school organization what caused a lot of frustration on my first experience in class. The first experience as a teacher is something so fast and almost pass at the blink of the eye, that shouldn’t be considered as final verdict and yes as improvement of the teacher training.

Verification of Deforestation in Indigenous Land Using Satellite Image

Andrade de Oliveira Farias, Elana

Abstract:

Deforestation occurs, in most cases, because of the advance of agriculture, mining and wood extraction, with Pará being one of the states that most deforests, and the Ituna-Itatá indigenous land was evaluated for deforestation for a period of four years (2017/2021). The aim is to make this comparison with NDVI in a geoprocessing software, which used images from the Sentinel-2 satellite. With the results obtained, it can be verified that there really was deforestation within the indigenous territory, in an area of approximately 52 km². The largest percentage increase was in sparse vegetation, which means that the forest area became meadow. It can be understood that the NDVI can help governments and other entities to verify deforestation for management assistance.

Evaluation of Algorithms for Group Recommendation Systems with Top-K Restrictions

Antonetti da Motta, Leonardo

Abstract:

Recommender Systems (RS) are used as a means to assist users in getting proper recommendations, when considering various items that can be matched to an individual user. Group Recommender Systems (GRS) generally work off of the results of RS, under the lenses of a group of users requiring a unified list of recommendations that satisfies all those users to a certain extent. The performance of GRS has been relatively varied across different group recommendation algorithms, and between coupled and decoupled modes of evaluation. This is especially evident when GRS suffers from lack of explicit information regarding individual users within a group. We use a previously implemented set of GRS algorithms while also implementing three additional algorithms to this set, and evaluate the whole set of algorithms with multiple randomly chosen groups with varying individual user ratings. We repeat the results with different top-k restrictions on individual user ratings to observe the impact of limited user information on each algorithm. While lower top-k values favoured algorithms such as MPL and EPFuzzDA, higher top-k values favoured algorithms such as MUL and LMS. When using top-k restrictions that were below the total number of expected recommendations, the MUL, LMS, and GFAR algorithms could not offer significant results. Algorithms such as MPL, FAI and AVGNM remained relatively consistent regardless of top-k restrictions. These results, when compiled, could be skewed by different definitions of ‘fairness’ in regards to evaluation. Regardless, the top-k restriction has a significant impact on the performance of a given group recommendation algorithm, considering the metrics observed.

Russia’s War in Ukraine: A Brief Historical and Geopolitical Analysis

Anunciação Oliveira, Patrick

Abstract:

History shows that relations between Russia and Ukraine are strongly intertwined, once these two countries come from a common origin back in the medieval times. The “Kievan Rus” gave birth to three nations in Eastern Europe that are nowadays passing through a hard moment since the war burst out on February 24th in that region. By calling the memories shared between these countries and historical narratives created to serve as political weapons, the president of Russia launched an attack against its neighbor, alleging that it should not exist. By doing so, he also affirmed he was protecting the Russians who live in Ukraine, setting them free from a Nazi government. This brief analysis aims to interpret the geopolitical and historical ties that connect the two countries in order to understand better what he has used as justifications for this war.

Cities in Climate Change: the Brazilian Urban Challenges

Araújo Souto, João Paulo

Abstract:

Over the last two decades, Brazil’s political scenario has been marked by socio-environmental turbulence. In addition to political polarization, the country has also suffered, year after year, from major natural disasters as a consequence of global climate change. Historically, Brazil is an important player in the world’s environmental agenda, serving as an example for other countries in the global south. However, the climate agenda faces challenges to be integrated into urban planning in Brazilian cities. Climate change mitigation efforts have been limited due to a lack of articulation between macro and micro governance, geographical inequities, and a lack of political motivation, among other social-political factors. Consequently, the tensions between urban space and the environment have brought risks to the most vulnerable populations. However, even if the scenario seems pessimistic, some cities are leading the climate agenda in Brazil with their own initiative. In this sense, this paper seeks to provide an overview of the urban climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies that are being developed in Brazil. Even with the legal limitations of the impact and expansion of environmental policy, municipal governments have taken the lead in developing urban solutions and articulating national and international support networks to address the climate crisis. Therefore, this paper seeks to raise an overview of the advances, challenges, and failures of the implementation of climate change policies in Brazilian cities.

All About Control: Political Aperture and State Project Concealing Crimes Against Humanity

Arezzo Blanco Pereira, Pilar

Abstract:

This article is based on documentary research inside the digital archives of CPDOC from the Getúlio Vargas Faculty (FGV), concerning the Brazilian military dictatorship and Geisel´s governance (1974-1979) procedure upon denounces of violations of human rights. In 1975 those complaints reached international organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and the Organization Of American States (OAS) through a dossier gathered by International Amnesty. The methods used were Marc Bloch´s critical method, a document does not speak unless is questioned, also the work of a historian is to comprehend through an analysis. Some other articles and books were used to corroborate my arguments as well as to explain the context of the period. The material gathered as well as the documentary work helped to show that the choice of a diplomatic exit was part of a State project to undercover those crimes and to control the aperture of the regime with an iron fist.

Textile Reinforced Concrete: A Review

Aschebrock, Giovanna Caroline

Abstract:

In order to solve a problem in reinforced concrete, which is the corrosion of the steel bars, Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC) appears as an interesting new innovative building material. Unlike the concrete with fibers dispersed in the cement matrix, this type of reinforcement uses non-corrosive fibers meshes positioned in the direction of the tensile stresses, allowing to reduce the thickness of the concrete elements with high tensile strength, increasing its effectiveness. In addition to having high durability, Textile Reinforced Concrete is very easy to handle, to execute and to transport. Furthermore, it is also possible to produce concrete pieces with a better surface finish and in different architectural designs. Research on this new building material takes place mainly in Germany. In this way, we seek to further disseminate the knowledge of the TRC, so that more research is carried out, that more information gaps are explained and for more people to know their advantages and disadvantages. In this paper we want to make a brief review of the available literature on this subject, presenting the history of the TRC, its main characteristics and properties, seeking to arouse interest in this material so that it can be further developed and applied.

Brief Notes on Structural Decisions and Environmental Protection in the Brazilian Law

Azevedo da Rosa, Luísa

Abstract:

This article analysed the possibility of using structural decisions for environmental protection in the Brazilian law. In this context, it was examined the concept of structural decision, environmental protection as a fundamental right, the use of structural decisions for environmental protection and Brazilian cases. The research followed the hypothetical-deductive method, analysing scientific articles and specific bibliography. The research topic is relevant because the development of society contributed to the emergence of complex litigation that demand from the judiciary more than the traditional process can offer. That is why structural decisions are an important and modern topic of study. Also, the advance of human modernization emphasizes environmental protection as an important concern, plus environmental protection is a fundamental right in Brazilian Federal Constitution. The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of environmental protection through structural decisions in Brazilian law and to analyse Brazilian cases that used structural decisions in the environment field. In conclusion, even that there is no specific law in Brazil that regulates the application of structural decisions, there are cases in which judges applied structural decisions, aiming a more adequate solution to the cases. It was also identified cases about environmental protection in which some authors believed structural decisions were applied and others do not. It was observed as well that the discussion about structural decisions, specially related with environmental protection, is still a new topic in Brazil, that is the reason why is it not possible to find a lot of material on the subject and further study on the subject is necessary.

Social Networks and Terrorism, How Online Alternative Right Culture Helped Shape Modern Terrorism and the Lone Wolf Fenomena

Aleluia Jaffré, Diego

Abstract:

Even though terrorism does not have a universally accepted concept, the work follows Walter Laqueur’s premise and classifies terrorism as any violent act carried out by non-state organizations with the objective of influencing the population and the current government. Therefore, this paper aims to argue the connections between the Lone Wolf phenomena and social media. The current work is primarily grounded in the qualitative approach, and the review of specialized literature is the main methodology chosen. The lone wolf is characterized by an individual who appears to have no connection to any organization but is willing to take up arms and spread terror in pursuit of this ideal. Even though the scale of their attacks may not be as significant as those of large organizations like Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, with current technologies, it’s possible for an individual’s or a small group’s attack to attract as much attention as an attack organized by a larger group. Furthermore, lone wolves can achieve significant notoriety by producing viral content during their attacks or writing texts that encourage others to follow their lead. Anonymity and humor serve as a shield for posts classified as absurd on other platforms. The presence of humor and elements of pop culture is not accidental, and presenting their ideology with elements of popular imagination generates identification with a younger generation or appeals to the nostalgia of older users. Exploring the evolution of the study of terrorism and national security, linking them to how the advance of the internet helped shape a new vision of messages and propagandas.

Alencar Rolim França Pinto, Gabriel

Abstract:

The following article examines the emergence and role of the New Development Bank (NDB), established by the nations of the BRICS acronym, focusing on its contribution to sustainable development and global influence through the bank. The NDB’s primary objective is to promote infrastructure projects and sustainable development, particularly in emerging or developing economies. To analyze the NDB’s impact, a qualitative approach was employed, involving comprehensive analysis of various sources, including agreements, articles, and books. The study begins by exploring the bank’s creation to enhance the global influence of BRICS countries, followed by an examination of its member states and operational areas. Subsequently, the article defines sustainable development and evaluates the NDB’s role in advancing it. The importance of sustainable development will be underscored, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as a prominent global theme. The article highlights that businesses and banks, like the NDB, can adopt the SDGs in their agendas. For instance, the NDB offers loans and technical assistance to facilitate funding and project implementation. Notably, the bank has primarily been focusing on its founding member countries, but it could also aim to expand its reach to non-member nations. The potential of the NDB to promote sustainable development and enhance the geopolitical influence of BRICS nations is significant. Expanding the bank’s projects to more countries and simplifying the investment process can further advance sustainable development and elevate the global leadership of BRICS nations. However, acknowledging ongoing efforts and complexities related to the NDB’s role within the BRICS framework, more research is needed to comprehensively address this situation.

Alves da Costa Canella, Douglas

Abstract:

O Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a rare condition characterized by bone fragility and deformities resulting from mutations in the COL1A1 and COL1A2 genes. This literature review emphasizes the clinical and pharmacological aspects associated with OI, with a special focus on the prognosis and impact on the lives of patients with this condition. Methodology: The literature review spanned from 2002 to 2022 and utilized four international databases. Nineteen articles addressing pharmacological interventions in humans with OI were selected, limited to the Portuguese and English languages. Results and Discussion: Pharmacological treatment with bisphosphonates, such as pamidronate, alendronate, and zoledronic acid, has shown benefits in bone density and fracture reduction, particularly in younger patients. However, the effectiveness of these treatments in adults, varying with the type of bisphosphonate and OI subtype, is less conclusive. Zoledronic acid has demonstrated promise in reducing clinical fractures, especially in children, suggesting its potential as an effective treatment. Conclusion: Advances in pharmacological treatment for OI offer hope for improving the quality of life of patients. Nevertheless, ongoing research is essential to develop more effective and personalized approaches. Collaboration among healthcare professionals, researchers, and patients plays a pivotal role in the management and treatment of this rare and challenging condition.

Alves Tavares, André Luis

Abstract:

In our digitally transformative era, the widespread adoption of network technology has propelled us into an interconnected world teeming with diverse applications. However, amidst this digital evolution, the critical importancé of information and communication technology security cannot be overstated. Often overlooked are vulnerabilities within the data link layer, situated at a foundational OSI level, which pose substantial risks, particularly for private individuals and small networks. This study investigates the susceptibility of such entities to data link layer attacks, specifically targeting common threats like man-in-the-middle and ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) poisoning. Through controlled simulations employing easily accessible tools in virtual environments, the study evaluates the effectiveness of protective measures while concurrently revealing the lack of awareness among everyday technology users regarding data link layer vulnerabilities. The findings underscore the urgency of educational initiatives to empower individuals with the knowledge to recognize, prevent, and mitigate data link layer attacks, enhancing the security of network communications in our expanding digital landscape.

Abstract:

Education as a solution to other social issues has been advocated over the years, categorized as a human right and the subject of the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) by the United Nations. When analysing the city of Rio de Janeiro, numerous shortcomings in the structure of public security, addressed in the sixteenth Sustainable Development Goal, become evident. These shortcomings directly impact the objectives promised in the field of education, despite the presence of the Rio 2030 Agenda, which employs the UN’s Agenda 2030 as a benchmark for the city’s urban planning. The lack of dissemination of the data presented in the research discussed in this article highlights how the interconnection between SDGs is often subtle and not readily apparent at first glance. The compromised quality of education prevents obtaining a clearer path towards achieving the goal set by the UN.

Hydrocarbon Pollution in Aquifers: An Overview on its Mechanisms and Solutions

Araszewski Gomes da Silva, Ana Letícia

Abstract:

Petroleum is one of the most valuable goods in our society, revered for its economic significance and pivotal role as a primary energy source. Alongside the process of modernization and urbanization, the explanation and influence of oil continue to increase in our world. Unfortunately, the usage and the refining processes of petroleum generate a series of environmental challenges. One of them is the pollution of aquifers caused by hydrocarbons of the BTEX type (Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl-Benzene and Xylenes) – typically encountered in petroleum, these compounds are well-documented for their carcinogenic properties. In the pursuit to better conserve groundwater, this article aims to highlight the contamination that the BTEX causes in aquifers, as well as the solutions and remediations methods used in the preservation of groundwater. In pursuit of this objective, the article draws upon an analysis of empirical discoveries and studies conducted on the remediation of aquifers contaminated by petroleum.

A Philosophical Analysis about the Rise of the New Development Bank

Araújo Miranda, Carolina

Abstract:

This paper intends to promote a brief discussion about how the New Development Bank (NDB) emerges as a new pole of economic and political power in the face of the political and economic instability experienced internationally. This is because, for a long time, Eastern European countries and the United States of America regulated international activities indirectly, through agreements where the former were in a privileged position compared to nations in the Global South. However, the crisis scenario in international politics created the right environment for the BRICS countries to create a new financial institution that would, in fact, meet the needs of these countries and the developing countries that became members. The following research uses a literature review to understand how the discourses and regulations that encompass the New Development Bank relate to its status as a global anti-hegemonic pole.

Challenges of the Greater Use of Cannabinoids in Palliative Care

Armada Maturana, Ricardo Manoel

Abstract:

Cannabis has been used over the years for healing and as a mind-altering drug. The expansion of cannabinoids in palliative care is leading to changes in legislation in many countries therefore permitting greater use of this substance prescribed for extended indications including palliative care, intractable epilepsy, chronic pain, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), and many other symptoms. This study is a literature review that aims to deliberate on the restrictions of the greater use of cannabinoids in patients who need palliative care. The research process for this study occurred in August 2023 and consisted of a search on the database platforms PubMed and Scholar Google using the keywords ‘Medical cannabis’, ‘palliative care’, ‘cannabinoids’, and ‘review’. The logical operators were also used for more precise results. Although the number of prescriptions of medicinal cannabinoids supplied by physicians is increasing such as the number of publications about the use of cannabinoids in palliative care, the evidence supporting it is still limited. This study aims to discuss the challenges of the use of cannabinoids in patients who need palliative care.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - DSM as a Colonial Legacy

Asmuz Pereira de Aguiar Pinto, Ulysses

Abstract:

This paper presents a brief summary of correlations between colonial discursive practices of depersonalization of the colonized subject and the descriptive classification format of symptoms present in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manuals of Mental Disorders), which gradually moved towards silencing the experience of the subject in psychological suffering. Through a dialogue between the concepts of Spivak, Said, Fanon and Michel Foucault, and contemporary thinkers in psychology and psychiatry, it was possible to observe the renewal of an authoritarian practice of control through the discourse. By placing the inferior Other in a stigmatized position that would, in contrast, sustain the existence of a position coined by the West as naturally superior. We conclude by highlighting the need to create devices to get closer to the subject and listen to them, in order to avoid repeating the cycle of deauthorization and subjugation.

Use of Imaging Tests in Forensic Dentistry for the Identification of Corpses – Integrative Review

Assolini Pinheiro Zanoti, Lays

Abstract:

Carrying out the identification of a corpse is necessary within the scope of justice and to complete the cycle of life, together with family members and society. This identification through skeletonized, charred or decomposing bodies is a work that requires knowledge on the part of professionals and techniques that help in its recognition. Forensic dentistry is an area that evaluates and performs post-mortem (PM) exams, including imaging, being classified as intra and extraoral that can help in the identification of the individual. Comparison of images obtained in PM examinations with ante-mortem (AM) radiographs is a reliable and sensitive method, provided that the images are not distorted. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the possibility of identifying cadavers in the context of forensic dentistry through the aid of radiographic examinations of the oral cavity. The PICO strategy was used to formulate the question, and the search was performed in the following databases: Embase, Medline, Cochrane Library, Virtual Health Library and Google Scholar, between the years 2011 to 2021, 457 were found. articles, among these, 24 met the eligibility criteria and were included in the study. Intra and extraoral radiographs such as periapical, bite-wing, panoramic, and computed tomography are performed both AM and PM and when compared to identify a corpse, they have positive results and can be useful in the identification process.

Phenomenological Modeling and Analysis of an Electric Submersible Pump Pilot Plant

Azevedo Anunciação, Gabriel

Abstract:

In the oil industry, it is often necessary to use artificial lift methods to increase the energy of fluids to bring them to the surface. One of the most common types of artificial lift system is the Electric Submersible Pump (ESP), which is a reliable and efficient method for lifting fluids from deep wells or wells with low reservoir pressure. This paper presents a detailed analysis of an ESP pilot plant using a phenomenological modeling approach. The goal of the study is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the performance of the ESP system and to identify key factors that affect its efficiency and reliability. The study involves the collection of data on various parameters, such as flow rate, pressure, and power consumption, and the development of a phenomenological model to describe the behavior of the ESP system. The results of the analysis show that the phenomenological model accurately predicts the behavior of the ESP system and provides insights into the factors that affect its efficiency and reliability. The study contributes to the development of more efficient and effective methods for designing and operating ESP systems in the oil industry.

The (Semi) Logical Concept of Administrative Police Power

Barbosa, Matheus Gabriel

Abstract:

This paper aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the concept of Administrative Police Power in the context of Public Administration and Public Policies, conducting an in-depth analysis of the foundations of Administrative Police Power legitimacy, including formal, material, and proportionality foundations involved in its discretionary exercise. The concept of public interest was explored, along with its relation to public policies and the criteria for equality in their implementation. Additionally, the connection between public interest, Kantian judgments, and Haeberlin’s Meritocratic State of Law thesis was examined, elucidating the synthetic a priori aspects of public interest. The author employed Woleński’s semi-formal logic tools as a methodological approach to enrich the traditional doctrine, incorporating principles of constitutional hermeneutic interpretation, such as the proportionality principle, contemporary ideas of legality, like the juridicity principle, public policies, and the defense of constitutional democracy and first-dimension rights. The findings highlighted a semi-formal synthesis that can be beneficial for judges and public agents, ensuring the legitimacy of the exercise of Administrative Police Power when all relevant elements are met. Lastly, the study identified areas for future research, including unifying the concepts of bound and discretionary Administrative Police Power, understanding the differences in legitimacy between discretionary acts of Administrative Police Power and other discretionary acts exercised by Public Administration, and the potential for improving Woleński’s semi-formal approach to allow the application of more sophisticated logical tools for understanding Administrative Police Power in the context of modern democratic societies and their constitutional frameworks.

An Introduction and Comparison to Czech Republic’s and Brazil’s Legal System and Customary Law

Barradas, Nicoly

Abstract:

This article seeks to expose and reflect synthetically about Brazilian law sources, and compare it to Czech law sources, centering itself towards the analysis of the role of customary law in those countries. As well as providing a clear overall view on their legal system and general sources of law. The approach undertaken is a succinct qualitative analysis of how the legislative system of Czechia and, primarily, Brazil works. Nevertheless, noticing the fact that most of the subject of the sources is limited to questions about the law, customs, case law and doctrine, or even about which are the formal or material sources of law, it is endorsed that the way to approach this specific theme must be revised, as the topic brings more complex issues, which requires a deeper knowledge and investigation.

Scientific Content Analysis (Scan): Perceptions about the Technique Dedicated to Detecting Deception

Barros Corręa de Lima, Letícia

Abstract:

SCAN stands out for Scientific Content Analysis, a technique developed with the aim of revealing information and detecting if deception is present within written statements. Throughout the years, SCAN has proved its importance by being vastly used in continents such as North America, Australia, and Europe and in an expressive number of services of national and global importance dedicated to law enforcement, military intelligence, and federal agencies. This paper was established with the purpose of comprehending how this statement analysis technique is expected to perform in practice, what is offered to those responsible for interpreting written sentences, different ways of approaching Scientific Content Analysis, as well as who is currently invested in learning this tool. The constant criticism attributed to SCAN due to its supposed lack of scientific foundation was also discussed here. As the study was being conducted, it became clear that the analysis of SCAN reports and impressions of previous researchers provided lenses to understand challenges offered given the insufficient detailment of ways available for validating criteria and the absence of a theoretical support for the technique. SCAN ended up demonstrating that it is possible that previous experiences of trained professionals might influence how they analyse a statement, suggesting that the technique could have been applied in a non-standardised format, even with the help of over 10 criteria. It also indicated that SCAN could benefit from the development of a theory that supported sociocultural features and different backgrounds capable of influencing one’s organisation of sentences when providing a statement.

An Analysis of First Appearance Hearings in Brazil Under the Labeling Approach

Barroso Vieira Costa, Thainá

Abstract:

This paper questioned the legitimation of the oppression experienced by arrested individuals in Brazil due to the loosening of their First Appearance hearings, based on concepts derived from criminological theories, especially the Labeling Approach. For the preparation of this paper, bibliographic and documentary research were used, with emphasis on official data provided by the Institute for the Defense of the Right to Defense – IDDD. It is concluded that the individuals held in custody, whose profile frequently is of poor and black young people, are labeled as deserving of blame, often for crimes for which there are no witnesses, and in the majority of the cases for crimes without violence, what legitimates the application of a stigmatizing sanction, as well as the occurrence of violence against these individuals, panorama that can be easily verified through the loosening of their First Appearance hearings.

Why do I see a Woman? A Feminist Decolonial Perspective of the Film “Passing”

Bicudo Passos da Fonseca, Sophia

Abstract:

Film analysis is a way of approaching cinematographic productions in order to promote a broader understanding of phenomena experienced by several social groups. Furthermore, decolonial feminism allows for an interpretation that is sensitive to the complexity of the intersections between sex, gender, race, class, and sexuality and combative of the coloniality of power. In this scenario, the American film “Passing”, by Rebecca Hall, released in 2021 and inspired by the novel “Passing”, by Nella Larsen, published in 1929, which address sex, gender and race in an intertwined way, can provide an interpretation of reality by portraying the passing phenomenon through the character Irene Redfield. With that in mind, through a narrative revision of literature and a film analysis, this article analysed this cinematographic production in order to understand the gendering of Irene Redfield through a decolonial perspective. The results indicate that our culture shape our look towards the world with “markers”, creating realities in this process. Therefore, the look is not fortuitous, our perception is within culture and, thus, in discourse.

The Role of Urbanization on the Impact of Fish Invasive Species

Boattini Gimenez, Matheus

Abstract:

Invasive species and habitat degradation, which is promoted by the land cover change as a consequence of urbanization, are serious problems that impact the native fish assemblages in rivers and streams all over the world. Then this article promotes a bibliographic review that brought together models that predict the relation between habitat degradation and invasive species, and also studies of specific cases involving those variables, focusing on a better understanding of how the habitat degradation affects the action of invasive species over the native fish diversity, as they seem to be correlated. To determine if the impact of invasive species is enhanced by the habitat degradation or habitat degradation and invasive species are two separated impacts to the aquatic ecosystems that act separately on the native fish diversity. The present study finds out that the habitat degradation facilitates the invasion of rivers and streams by alien fish species and possibly a greater impact of them in the native fish assemblage, being the decrease of habitat complexity a factor of extreme importance in this relation. With these discoveries, more efficient management recovery plans for rivers and streams impacted by these factors can be elaborated, and strategies to preserve preserved areas as well

Aversive Control Properties in Functional-Analytical Psychotherapy Manuals and Recommendations of B.F. Skinner and M. Sidman

Bohnenberger Ruschel, Fanny

Abstract:

In Radical Behaviorism, B.F. Skinner and M. Sidman are famously cited for their positions against the use of aversive control, maintaining their criticisms based mainly on the ineffectiveness and transience of its effects. However, later authors claim that there are contexts in which aversive control may not only be a justifiable alternative, but also effective. Among the contexts where it has been used is psychotherapy, which has several aspects within Behavior Analysis. Among them, Functional Analytical psychotherapy (FAP) is a modality of psychotherapy that uses the therapist-client relationship as the main means of intervention and resource for changing the client’s behavior. In this article, two works focused on FAP (Functional Analytic Psychotherapy: Creating Intense and curative Therapeutic relationships and A Guide to Functional Analytic Psychotherapy: Awereness, Courage, Love and Behaviorism) in order to identify elements of aversive control and compare them with Skinner and Sidman ‘s recommendations. It is concluded that the discussion about the use of aversive control in social instances – among them, psychotherapy – is complex, and requires an understanding of the implications of each of the possible forms of control in the context of action. Thus, although Skinner and Sidman have shown a position against this form of control, the analyses carried out here suggest a discrepancy between the position of these authors and the development of functional-analytic psychotherapy.

Will Climate Change Cause a Geographical Expansion of Dengue in Mediterranean Europe?

Borborema de Filippo, Giovanna

Abstract:

As the climate changes a lot of concerns take places in the scientific world, especially the ones regarding global health. The possibility of a Dengue geographical expansion is real as the environment changes drastically, although its intensity and range depends on how damaging the change is becoming. Mediterranean Europe is one of the most suitable and probable places for the disease expansion, once it was already a carrier of Dengue infection cases before its erradication in the beginning of the 20th century. Now scientists wonder about the virus being re-introduced as the temperatures slowly suits its biological demandings for surviving and adapting. The outbreak that happened in the Madeira island in 2012 is a proof of how Aedes mosquitos populations are spreading around those lands. The virus, however, is believed to be brought mainly with travelers coming from endemic countries, as the flow of people and products became more intense and fast with globalisation. The climate approach was focused on the comparision of past, current and future temperature of Mediterranean countries. The results obtained were mostly correlated to seasonality, this meaning that the projections point to a rise of vulnerability during the summer time, independly of the intensity of future climates yet its expansion clearly depends on it.

Influence of the Overweight and Obesity on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Review

Barros Adamantino de Oliveira, Bruno

Abstract:

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disorder with diverse manifestations, from mild to severe complications. The rising prevalence of autoimmune diseases, including SLE, is linked to factors like obesity, affecting about 30–40% of SLE patients. Obesity’s impact on SLE pathogenesis involves adipose tissue’s pro-inflammatory role, contributing to a low-grade inflammatory state and comorbidities. Studies indicate a potential link between Western diet, dysbiosis, and autoimmune diseases, though the relationship with SLE remains unclear. Despite associations with renal dysfunction, atherosclerosis, and decreased physical activity in SLE patients, scientific evidence on obesity’s effects on SLE risk is limited. The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and nutritional status, particularly focusing on the impact of obesity. Four databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Concensus, and SciSPace) were searched. Peer-reviewed papers published in English between 2013 and 2023 were reviewed and analyzed. Search terms were selected using PECO-S criteria: population (SLE patients with overweight and obesity or not), exposure (Overweight and obesity), comparison (Adults with SLE and adequate Body Mass Index), outcome (Disease activity, remission, inflammatory markers). A total of 18 studies were analyzed. We found eighteen relevant articles that addressed some factors that could be linked to the increase of the SLE for obese patients, such as: nutritional habits, medication, lipid profile, risk of cardiovascular disease, juvenile obesity and inflammatory profile. From the few studies published to date, the relationship between obesity and SLE is inconclusive Further studies will be necessary for a better understanding of this relationship.

From a Student’s View, Emotional and Physical Distress Induced by the COVID-19 Pandemic

Barroso Assuf, Isabela - 2

Abstract:

Social structures were challenged and reshaped with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. The educational institutions to be assessed in this article, high school, and college, as structures for primary and higher education, respectively, were also affected. However, Brazil’s longstanding social inequalities did not impact any other area as directly as education. Distance Learning, in Portuguese “Ensino à Distância” (EAD), the principal teaching tool used at the time, confronts socioeconomic barriers. Thus, the mental and physical complications that arose in students, as a direct byproduct of forced isolation, span various areas, including the inability to cope with the expectations created by themselves and their families during the tumultuous period of completing high school and taking entrance exams. Therefore, students need to be listened to, as a matter of utmost importance, so we, as a society, can understand the origins of their stress, considering that during the pandemic period, over 48 million students ceased attending the regular face-to-face activities of the pre-pandemic period (GRANDSIOLI et al, 2020) [1].

Connection Between Soil and Economy of Plateaus of Santa Catarina

Bleichvel Oneda, Eduardo

Abstract:

Economic development in agriculture based regions, as well as on other adjacent industries, is greatly dependent on the characteristics of the soil, and what it has that can be extracted by the people working on it. This article aims to better point down what aspects of the different soils in the southern-brazilian state of Santa Catarina have impacted the differing agricultural and economical developments in its multiple geographical sectors. The analysis of multiple studies regarding both agricultural practices, their economical impact, and the geological origins and soil properties in each region of the state were followed by comparison between works. It’s concluded that under poorer soil conditions, its preferred and most economically impactful use is of silviculture and fruit cultivation, that being long-cycled plants. The better the soil conditions, the more impacted its region’s economy are by growth of short-cycled cultivars, such as grain, or even usage of the farmable area to grow livestock, swine and birds. Notably, all mentioned activities occuring in the regions in wich they are not the most economically relevant are mostly performed by smaller, family run farms as subsistence or secondary income.

The Psychic Apparatus Architecture: A Review of Freud’s Centenary Mind Model

Borelli, Bruno Renan

Abstract:

This article presents a comprehensive literature review on the concept of the Psychic Apparatus, the research aimed to provide an organized overview of Freud’s model of mental activity, while highlighting the key works that contributed to its formulation. Originally proposed by Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) as a mind model to comprehend psychic activity, the Psychic Apparatus is “constructed of several parts, each of which performs a particular function, and which have a  ixed, spatial relation to one another”. Its development unfolded across several of his seminal works, such as “The Interpretation of Dreams” (1900), “The Unconscious” (1915), and “The Ego and the Id” (1923), leading this sophisticated concept to be frequently misunderstood or supericially comprehended even by psychologists, often overlooking, as Freud pointed out, its several parts, particular functions, and spatial relations. In this literature review, Freud’s seminal works were analyzed along with relevant books and research papers obtained from open-access databases. As a result, this process enabled a systematic structuring of the Psychic Apparatus, organizing its architecture based on its distinct systems and functions, ultimately enhancing the overall comprehensibility. Remarkably, even a century after its last update, Freud’s mind model remains fundamental in psychoanalytic theory, underscoring the signiicance of this review. Moreover, an organized approach also holds potential for future reinterpretations of the model, particularly within the context of contemporary neuroscience and cognitive research, considering the numerous advancements and attempts to bridge the gap between the psyche and the brain that has emerged since Freud’s last works.

Veterinary drug poisoning is a growing problem in Brazil related to the indiscriminate use of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and veterinary medicines in agriculture, livestock and animal health. This article discusses the causes, diagnostic and treatment challenges, and social implications of this problem. In Brazil, which stands out as one of the largest agricultural producers in the world, exposure and contamination of veterinary medicines have increased. This increased exposure represents a significant threat to human and animal health and the environment. Cases of veterinary drug poisoning affect both agricultural workers and domestic and wild animals, contributing to environmental pollution and loss of biodiversity. The diagnosis and treatment of poisoning caused by veterinary medicines is complex, due to the diversity of substances and the different symptoms that can occur in humans and animals. Furthermore, the lack of awareness about the safe use of these products and the lack of adequate regulations contribute to the persistence of this problem. This article highlights the urgent need for stricter regulations, effective surveillance and awareness strategies to mitigate the harms of veterinary drug poisoning. The protection of public health in Brazil depends on the implementation of preventive and curative measures. A comprehensive understanding of this complex issue is important to guide national policies and sustainable agricultural practices aimed at reducing the risks associated with these harmful products.

Analysis of ENEM Data in an Educational Context: An English Literature Review

Bueno, Bernardo José

Abstract:

In recent years, data analysis has emerged as a critical tool for shaping public policies, offering a more comprehensive understanding of reality and uncovering patterns that may elude human perception. Within this context, Large-Scale Assessments (LSAs) stand out as invaluable sources of high-quality data, holding tremendous potential to inform and guide decision-makers. Among these LSAs, the National High School Exam (ENEM) administered in Brazil plays a pivotal role. With over 3 million candidates participating each year, the ENEM serves as a prerequisite for admission to the majority of the country’s top public universities. This extensive examination encompasses 180 questions across diverse subject areas, including an essay component. Additionally, candidates are given the option to complete a socio-economic and cultural questionnaire. Importantly, the data of all participants are made publicly available every year while preserving their anonymity. This rich dataset empowers researchers to uncover performance patterns and meticulously scrutinize the influence of multifaceted factors, including socio-economic variables, cultural elements, teaching methodologies, school management practices, and geographical disparities on students’ scores. This, in turn, allows for a profound understanding of critical national issues, ranging from the effectiveness of public policies to the far-reaching consequences of socio-economic inequalities. While a significant body of literature in Portuguese has been dedicated to exploring these themes, an observable dearth of articles published in English prevails within this realm, posing an obstacle to international access to essential information concerning one of the world’s most extensive educational systems. This study endeavors to indentify the size of this scientific gap and shed light on the predominant themes addressed in English-language publications.

It aims to analyze its rationalities and intentionality, especially about its potential scope, without disregarding its limits in the face of the crises experienced in the world. Due to the need to establish a theoretical and methodological framework for this article, some analytical lenses were established in order to contextualize financial education within relations with international organizations. The study has characteristics of qualitative research of a documentary nature. The corpus analysis and selection process in documents from international organizations such as the OECD. Financial education can be understood as a possibility for social and economic development, as financially educated individuals will be able to manage their resources better and make more assertive decisions. However, one cannot look into this area without problematizing whether contemporary processes related to financial education sometimes do not also have the pretext of establishing dynamics of blaming and making individuals responsible for their own vulnerabilities.
